ALZHEIMER TEA DAY:  A tea day on behalf of the Alzheimer’s society will be held at the Adult Education centre (old tech) on  Wednesday, April 26 from 11am to 2pm. Raffle will be held also. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

FLEADH BY THE FEALE: It’s finally here and typical the weather forecast is for rain!  But we’re a tough crowd in Abbeyfeale and that won’t worry us.  Abbeyfeale’s 23rd Fleadh starts on Thursday, April 27 – and runs  until Monday, May 1.  There’s even a man coming from Canada to take part in the All Ireland Bone playing competition on Bank Holiday Monday, May 1.  It will be, as always , a mighty weekend .  There will be sessions all over town in corners of hostelries and a pub crawl is in order before Sundays celebrity concert with De Dannan for which tickets are now on sale from Slice of Life 068-32655; Abbey Tile 068-31661; Celine 087 7697672 and Mary 087 7419343.  Bank Holiday Monday is a day to relax and enjoy the music all over town and then from 7.30pm the Gig Rig will be the place to be.  Scoil Mháthair Dé and Tournafulla Comhaltas will entertain the crowd before the All Ireland Senior Bone Playing when our Canadian entrant will be the unknown to watch.  It’s going to be a great weekend so mark it down.

HILL GRAVEYARD AGM:  Reilig Ide Naofa AGM will take place in the GAA Clubhouse on Thursday, April 27 @ 8pm. Please come. New members and new ideas very welcome. The graveyard is looking very well and in order to keep it so we need more people to help on clean up evening. Just one hour a week during the growing season to keep it maintained.

SPINATHON FUNDRAISER FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS; Friday, May 5 is Special Olympics Ireland National Collection Day.  Fealefit Strength &Conditioning, Mountmahon are holding a Spinathon on the day 7am – 10pm to help raise funds.  We need people to fill slots and keep our stationary Spin bikes going for 15 hours.  No level of fitness required, just need to keep those pedals turning at your preferred pace.  It is €5 for a 15 minute slot and you can do as many as you wish. WEST LIMERICK HERITAGE NETWORK:  A meeting of the network will take place at the Boardroom of West Limerick Resources on Wednesday, May 3 at 7.30pm.  New members always welcome.

SVP:   We are recruiting volunteers for our new St. Vincent De Paul shop in the town. The shop will be open from Monday to Saturday 10.00 – 5.00pm. The shop will have two shifts – 10.00 – 1.30pm and 1.30 – 5.00pm. If you have some time to give and would like to be part of our team or need more information please contact us on 087 1213560. We would love to have you work in our shop.  The work and time you will give to the Vincent de Paul as a volunteer in our shop will be invaluable. By this work you will be making a huge difference in the lives of so many people.  Volunteering is a gift to the community.

LAUNCH OF COMMUNITY FACILITIES REPORT:  West Limerick Resources will launch the results of a comprehensive report of Community Facilities in the West Limerick area on Thursday, April 27 at the Desmond Complex Newcastle West from 7:30-9:30pm. Everyone is welcome to come along to hear about the results of this survey which provides a wealth of information and points for consideration for communities in the area. RAMBLING HOUSE:  Benny Thade McCarthy’s Rambling House Bank Holiday Monday May 1 at 9pm in Fr Caseys Club house Abbeyfeale.  All musicians, singers, dancers and storytellers are welcome to attend.   A donation will be made on the night to Pieta House Suicide prevention and awareness.  All welcome.

FEALEFIT OFFERS TRAINING PACKAGE:  Fealefit Strength & Conditioning are offering a young Athlete between the ages of 12-16 the opportunity to win a Training package worth €2500 and take their training to the next level & compete at a higher level in their chosen field whether it be an individual or team sport!  We are delighted to have teamed up with Adrenalin Sports who will kit out the chosen athlete with footwear, apparel and accessories.  We will coach, track, liaise, monitor & develop the individual’s functional movement and strength & conditioning capabilities relevant to their sport and age and help them to progress.  They will have unlimited use of our facilities, constant functional assessment & fitness testing, nutritional advice and one to one sessions every week with our team of trainers. This is an excellent opportunity for a young local athlete to excel under our guidance. DARKNESS INTO LIGHT:  This year’s walk/run takes place in Newcastle West on Saturday, May 6 at 4 am, starting at The Desmond Complex (new venue) Gortboy. Seniors, Students (aged 16 & upwards) and unwaged €15. Children under 16 can register free but if they want a T-shirt it will cost €3.50. Groups of 5 or more can avail of a 20% discount. REMEMBERING ZOE:  A darts tournament will be held at the Ballintemple Inn, NCW on Friday, May 5 to raise funds for Remembering Zoë.  Entry €10.  Contact Caroline on 0872569050.  The third Remembering Zoë Cycle Challenge around the 8 parishes which surround Abbeyfeale will be held on Sunday, May 14 – there are 3 routes:  110 km, 75 km or 40 km and online registration is now open – you can register by clicking on ; https://register.primoevents.com/ps/event/RememberingZoeCycleChallenge By registering on-line you are automatically entered in a draw for the following spot prizes:  €100 voucher for O’Sullivan’s Cycles, Killarney and a €100 voucher for iBikes Cycle Shop, Killarney.  All participating cyclists will receive a specially designed finisher’s medal.

FR.CASEYS LADIES GAA FEILE FUNDRAISER:  Please donate your unwanted clothes & textiles to raise funds for Fr. Casey’s Girls U14 team who have qualified for the Feile finals in Cavan in June. Any REWEARABLE clothes, paired shoes, belts, handbags, curtains, towels, bed linen, soft toys are accepted. Please drop off bags at the GAA complex on Sunday mornings, 10.30-11.30 am between now and the end of May. ‘FREE TO BE’ PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE (PART 1): West Limerick Resources (SICAP) will roll out the very popular ‘Free to be’ Personal Development Course (Part 1) in the Further Education & Training Centre Abbeyfeale, starting Monday May 8 from 10 – 12 noon, for 6 weeks finishing on June 19. This course is free to anybody in receipt of social welfare payments, those who feel they would like to be part of a group, parents, parenting alone, people living in a disadvantage area or who have children with learning difficulty. This programme is about well-being which benefits you and your family. FOOD CLOUD INFORMATION EVENING: West Limerick Resources is delighted to announce that we are working to support the FoodCloud Initiative in the West Limerick Area. FoodCloud is a simple yet ingenious idea whereby working with local supermarkets for the aim of reducing food waste and restoring community spirit based on shared food. We would like to hear from Community Groups or Charities in the area who would be in a position to support this initiative, by receiving the food donations for their own work or indeed for further distribution within the community. COMMUNITY NATTERS: West Limerick Resources are now producing a monthly community newsletter entitled ‘Community Natters’. With this newsletter, we hope to reach out to the many community groups in our area and communicate some useful hints and information as well as highlighting some new and interesting projects happening around us. YOUTH SURVEY:  The Big April Ask is a national survey prepared by Youth Leaders throughout Ireland. It needs to be completed by the end of April 2017. The Diocesan Youth Ministry team (Fr Chris and Aoife), recently invited young people to participate in a survey with questions from Pope Francis for young people. This new national survey has now also been created and we are inviting young people to complete this too – As Chris says: ‘it will take you 2 minutes to complete and the answers will be seen by Pope Francis himself because he wants to know what you think’. SOCIAL FARMING: West Limerick Resources is delighted to support the development of Social Farming in the region – Limerick, Tipperary, Clare and parts of Kerry and Cork.  Calling interested farmers & farm families who would like to hear more about Social Farming or participate in our training please contact Stefanie on 087 3663842 or email [email protected]. This TWO day training is FREE and ESSENTIAL if you wish to participate in Social farming. JUBILEE 2018:  In June 2018 the parish will celebrate  the 50th anniversary of the opening of our parish church.  A Golden Jubilee is a significant event in the life of any parish. The Pastoral Council are beginning to plan for the 50th celebrations. At this stage we are seeking any photographs of the construction phase of the building and any  articles or publications covering the opening Mass and  consecration ceremony.

Presented by Brenda Drumm, Faithcast is a mixture of interviews and news snippets from the Catholic Church in Ireland. It is published every Monday and is available on catholicnews.ie.

To see the daily readings you may log on to www.abbefelaeparish.ie and click on daily reading on the home page.  Log onto www.churchservices.tv/abbeyfealeparish for the church webcam.  You can now watch all services from home if you have access to a computer. You are asked to use car parking spaces in the Church car park before you start parking in the middle of the yard.  Invitation from Fr. TRALEE DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP” : They will hold their next event in The Rose Hotel April 27 @ 7:30pm. Special Guest  Mr Sid Sheehan, Nutritional Therapist.

PARK RUN IN THE DEMESNE:  Parkrun is a free, fun, timed 5 kilometer run.  It starts at 9.30am each and every Saturday beside the soccer pitch in the Demesne, Newcastlewest. Runners, walkers, families and even family pets are welcome!  Just register for free at www.parkrun.ie, print out your barcode and come along on Saturday morning.
We are one year old this Saturday, April 22.  There will be birthday cake and sweets for all at the finish so please come along.

PADRE Pio Prayer Meeting takes place in Lixnaw Church on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm.

MONAGAE RAMBLING HOUSE:  The monthly rambling house in Monagae Community Centre takes place on the 2nd Monday of the month.

NOTES FROM THE SEANCHAÍ, LISTOWEL:  Listowel Rambling House will take place in the Seanchaí Centre on Thursday April 27   from 9.15 pm.  A great evening of traditional music, song, dance & storytelling is guaranteed and audience participation is welcome.  Admission is free, tea/coffee served.  A screening of the acclaimed film ‘The Siege of Jadotville’ starring Jamie Dornan will take place in the Seanchaí Centre, Listowel on Friday April 28 at 8 pm as part of Listowel Military Tattoo.  Admission €5.

An Arts & Craft Fair will take place in the Seanchaí Centre, Listowel on Sunday, April  30 from 11 am.  Admission Free.

TABLE QUIZ FOR NEWCASTLEWEST PIPE BAND:  A table quiz in aid of the Pipe Band will take place on Friday, April 28 at the Silver Dollar pub, Maiden St.
