COMMUNITY ALERT:  If you have a security system in place from Abbeyfeale Community Alert, contact the committee member who organised it, for a free carbon monoxide alarm courtesy of Airtricity.   Never park on the hard shoulder to answer the phone or make a call as I was told by a fireman that you are only 15 minutes from death if you park there. Remember your car is not a phone booth – don’t make or answer calls while behind the wheel of a moving vehicle.  It was a week of mayhem on the roads with 5 deaths on one day alone so we must all take responsibility for our behaviour when we go out on the road – rushing, tiredness, distraction all contribute to making driving one of the most dangerous things that you do anyday.  It is an offence to purchase sex and it will no longer be the woman who is forced to sell her body that will face censure through the courts but the man who takes advantage of the woman’s desperation.  A warning has been issued to people travelling to Benidorm about always keeping their luggage in front of them and accepting no offers of help to carry it – it’s probably the wrong time of year to be talking about this but bear it in mind if you are travelling anywhere – there’s always someone who wants to relieve you of your hard earned cash wherever you go.  r photos so tried to hide their faces. You can clearly see one face and the other (unsure if it is male or female) has a distinctive tattoo on the right leg.
They work in 2 different ways. They will either pretend to help you down the stairs of the Sol Ocas whilst robbing your hand luggage of money and valuables or they will watch you get your suitcase from the coach and whilst you are waiting for your friend/partner to get theirs they will again open up your hand luggage and take everything. Please make sure you have your wits about you when getting off the coach. Keep your suitcase and hand luggage in front of you and push it to the hotel instead of pulling it. Do not accept any help from people you don’t know and finally if these people approach you don’t be scared to scream and shout as they do not like a commotion
Keep Sunday, November 19 free for our 2nd. Annual Christmas Party which will be held this year in Fr. Casey’s Clubhouse.  Tickets at €12 will shortly go on sale and will cover lunch and dancing to Mike Condon.  Further information to follow. We have been asked to remind people that once they reach the age of 65 and live alone or with a person/s aged over 65 then they are entitled to receive a monitored alarm system.  The free equipment is provided by Pobal following an application from Abbeyfeale Community Alert but there will be a monitoring fee to be paid yearly to the installing company which is currently in the region of €65.  If you do not have a land line the company will organise a sim card for a mobile phone for a monthly fee of approx. €12 on top of the monitoring fee.  If you are a victim of or have witnessed domestic abuse then log onto whatwouldyoudo.ie We constantly update our FB page with local alerts and information on keeping safe so do keep an eye on that. Committee members are Sean Broderick, Micheal O’Kelly N.T., Seamus Stack, Mossie Gleeson, Kathleen Collins, Mary McArthur, Buddy and Brenda Barry, John O’Sullivan, Billy Quirke N.T., Cllr. Francis Foley, Mary Jo O’Connell, James Joy, Marian Harnett.
