God’s mercy shown through history and to us in our own lives is something well worth reflecting on. Without a deep and intimate sense of this mercy, a personal relationship with the God of love becomes very difficult.
In all of life, we can, if we have the ears to hear, hear the quiet pulse of God’s heartbeat willing us to believe, that yes, we are deeply loved by the one who has created us for love.
Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI in his encyclical’ Deus Caritas Est tells us that when we know ourselves to be loved in this deep way, the call to love others is “no longer a question of a “commandment” imposed from without and calling for the impossible, but rather of a freely bestowed experience of love from within, a love which by its very nature must then be shared with others. Love grows through love.” (Deus Caritas Est §18, Pope Benedict XVI)
