Reflection

September 23rd, 2015

A PRAYER OF NEW BEGININGS Spirit of wisdom and love, Bless the pupils and teachers who are· returning to school. lBless those who are making new beginnings. Be with the children and their parents during the first days in primary school. Help us to build our school into a community of faith and love. Guide teachers to d1scipline with love. Help them to combine knowledge with education of the heart, doing so with understanding, reverence and compassion. May we honour each student as a miracle of God’s creation, creating space for mind, body and spirit,to grow into fullness of life.

Bereavement

Bereavement

In our parish the dead are remembered with practical expressions of reverence and love.  There are regular organised “clean ups” in Reilig Íde Naofa, St. Mary’s and the Abbey graveyards, with commemorative Masses being in each graveyard on different dates.  Huge crowds attend.  We are full of admiration made to honour the dead by planting flowers, extending footpaths and providing seating for quiet reflection.  All combine to reinforce our Christian hope of being reunited with our loved ones in eternal happiness.  For those more recently bereaved there is ongoing support in the form of group sessions- organised on a weekly basis, as the need arises.  These sessions follow a programme called” Seasons for Growth”.  Individual support is also available.  During November, a Remembrance Ceremony is held in the Parish Church.  Families of those bereaved during the past year participate in the Liturgy.  From a large chart in the Sanctuary the names of the dead are called.  As this happens, a family member brings a lighted candle to the altar and intercessory prayers are recited.

Parish Pastoral Council 2015 / 2016

September 21st, 2015

Our Pastoral Council

Michael Lane chairs our Parish Pastoral Council. The fourteen members of the Council represent different areas of the parish.  This is a very important time in our diocese and parish as we prepare for the Limerick Diocesan Synod.  We are grateful to our Synod delegates for their commitment and to our community for their prayers, encouragement and engagement.  To mark the Year of Culture in Limerick our Pastoral Council produced a booklet entitled “Our Town” and a book  “ Echoes of Abbeyfeale” to showcase the great richness of culture, faith and heritage of our area and its people.  These publications were ready to launch on the final of our Parish Mission.  This Mission, preached by the Redemptorist Fathers was an inspiring and uplifting experience for all of us.
